Autumn Dilemma

Ok friends, you've never led me astray before.

This lovely organic pumpkin was gifted to us by John's sister Colin. But we're torn . . .

In our shoes, would you 1) carve it or 2) cook it?

The important thing to ask is, Is this a baking pumpkin? The size makes me think it's not, and therefore should be carved, as it may not taste so good. My 2 cents, anyway.

Whatever its grower's intent, it's darn pretty!

with all the technological/scientific
advances of the 21st century at our fingertips, there must be a way to do both.

that being said...I say carve that sucker 'til it screams for mercy!
(then roast it's lightly salted seeds, yumyum)

I agree with Leslie: there are two kinds, pie and jack-o-lantern, and the carving pumpkins don't make for very good eating.

I like ye olde tradition of carving big turnips and carrying them as lanterns. We should give that a try...

carve that sucker and then post the results!

carve it then cook it. make it just as scary as you can (and you 'get' to look at johno every day, so you know scary).

and who cares if it's not the best punkin for eating? it's edible, it'd be a crime (no, a SIN) not to eat it.

Well, I was just about to write with thanks to everyone setting me straight about all things pumpkiny, and now Paul's post has me rethinking the whole enterprise. Hmm, something to mull over during a dull day at work. I like it!

(I'm thinking maybe soup: seems like any lackluster taste could be overcome by lots of garam masala and coconut milk).

Decision to be made hopefully this weekend . . .
